High-level Dialogue on Reparatory Justice.

The High-level Dialogue will bring together States, experts and partners working on reparatory justice, including civil society organizations, to advance reparatory justice for the legacies of enslavement, the trade in enslaved Africans and colonialism.

This High-level Dialogue follows the recent adoption, by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) at its 118th session, of General Recommendation No. 40, which sets out how the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination applies to reparatory justice for the harms and continuing consequences of colonialism, the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel slavery. The premise is that racial discrimination cannot be eliminated effectively, thoroughly or lastingly without examining and redressing those harms.
